An RTO (Registered Training Organisation) is a training provider registered by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) to deliver nationally recognised qualifications and courses under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). RTOs issue the formal certificates, diplomas, and statements of attainment that count toward builder licensing and CPD requirements.

For builders, RTOs matter in two main contexts: initial licensing (Certificate IV in Building and Construction, Diploma of Building and Construction) and ongoing CPD. NSW and Tasmania both recognise RTO-delivered training as approved CPD activity, with assessable RTO learning earning two CPD points per hour in NSW compared to one point per hour for standard interactive learning.

Common RTO providers in the building industry include HIA, Master Builders associations (state chapters), TAFE institutes, and private training colleges registered on training.gov.au.

Also known as: Registered Training Provider, vocational training provider.
