CPD (Continuing Professional Development)
CPD (Continuing Professional Development) is the annual training requirement for NSW individual building and swimming pool contractor licence holders.
Ask Chalkline about this →CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. In the NSW building licensing context, it refers to the mandatory annual training requirement for individual contractor licence holders in the building and swimming pool building categories.
Under the Home Building Act 1989 (NSW), individual building contractor licence holders must complete 12 CPD points per year as a condition of licence renewal. The points are earned through approved training activities: courses, webinars, industry events, and structured learning delivered by Building Commission NSW-approved providers. Missing the annual CPD target blocks licence renewal (verified 2026-05-08).
CPD is separate from the initial qualification requirement (Certificate IV or degree) and from the white card (general construction induction). It is an ongoing obligation for the life of the licence, not a one-time requirement.
Also known as: Continuing education, professional development points.
