Privacy
Short version. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics (privacy-first, no cookies). We don't sell anything to anyone. Chat queries hit our servers and are logged for quality. We handle personal information consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
Who we are
Chalkline is operated by Dan Waring, sole trader, based in Naarm/Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. This policy covers chalkline.com.au and the onsite chat agent.
What we collect

- Chat queries. The text of your question, the response, your IP address (rate-limiting), and a timestamp. Retained 30 days. No account, no name.
- Newsletter signup. Email address only. Stored at the email service provider. Unsubscribe link in every email.
- Correspondence. If you email us, we keep the email so we can reply and follow up.
What we don't collect
- No third-party tracking cookies.
- No fingerprinting.
- No data sold or shared with advertisers.
Why we collect it
- To run the site and the chat agent.
- To improve answers based on what people actually ask.
- To send the newsletter to people who asked for it.
- To reply when you contact us.
Members (when paid plans launch)
Subscription processing via Stripe. Email and billing address held by Stripe. We hold a Stripe customer ID, your subscription status, and your API key hash.
Overseas processing
Some of the services we rely on are based overseas. Your information may be processed in:
- Cloudflare (United States). Site hosting, analytics, chat worker, log storage.
- Anthropic (United States). Processes chat queries to generate responses.
- Stripe (United States, Ireland). Subscription payments, when paid plans launch.
- Airtable (United States). Internal content review board; does not hold visitor data.
These providers handle data under their own privacy terms. We send them only what we need to deliver the service.
Security
Site traffic is served over HTTPS. Chat logs are kept in Cloudflare storage and deleted after 30 days. We do not store passwords, card numbers, or government ID.
Access, correction, and deletion
You can ask us to confirm what information we hold on you, correct anything that's wrong, or delete it. Email [email protected]. We'll reply within a reasonable timeframe, normally inside 30 days.
Complaints
If you think we've mishandled your information, email [email protected] first so we can investigate and try to fix it. If you're not happy with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
Changes
We may update this policy. The current version is always the one on this page, with the "last updated" date below.
