About
Chalkline is an independent reference site, AI agent, and tool stack for Australian residential builders. Plain English. NCC and AS citations. Built by someone who has actually run building companies.
Who runs it
Chalkline is founded and edited by Dan Waring, a qualified carpenter and business graduate who has owned and operated building companies. The editorial perspective is a builder-operator's, not a journalist's or a marketer's.
How the wiki works
- Every article is reviewed quarterly. The "last updated" date on the page is the source of truth.
- NCC and AS clauses are paraphrased, never reproduced verbatim. Sources are linked.
- Wiki content is licensed CC BY 4.0. Quote it, copy it, build on it. Just credit Chalkline.
- State variants (NSW, VIC, QLD etc.) are tagged at the article level, not the pillar.
- Editorial decisions are independent. Any sponsored placements are clearly labelled and never influence article content or citations.
How the chat agent works
- Free tier: 10 questions per day. Members: unlimited.
- Answers cite the wiki articles they were drawn from.
- On regulatory questions, the agent will refuse and point to the official source if it can't cite.
- Not legal or financial advice. For disputes, see a lawyer or accountant.
