Acetoxy cure silicone
Acetoxy cure silicone releases acetic acid as it cures, giving a vinegar smell. Faster and cheaper than neutral cure but not suitable on stone, copper, or brass.
Ask Chalkline about this →Acetoxy cure silicone is a one-component silicone sealant that releases acetic acid (the compound that gives it a vinegar smell) as it cures through atmospheric moisture. The acetic acid byproduct makes it faster-curing and lower cost than neutral cure silicone, with a skin time of around 5 to 13 minutes. It bonds well to glass, aluminium, and glazed ceramic, making it a standard choice for glazing applications and general-purpose glass joints.
The acetic acid released during cure corrodes copper and brass, etches natural stone (marble, travertine, limestone), and degrades some bituminous waterproofing membranes. Where any of these materials are present, use neutral cure silicone instead. Acetoxy silicone is not paintable once cured.
