It licenses building practitioners (domestic builders, commercial builders, building surveyors, building inspectors, building designers, engineers), enforces professional standards, and handles complaints. Builders working in Victoria must be registered with the VBA and hold the required insurance before undertaking domestic building work. Note: in 2025, Victoria began transitioning VBA functions to the Building and Plumbing Commission (BPC); confirm current branding at vba.vic.gov.au.
