Sanitary drainage is the system of below-ground pipes that carries waste water and sewage from fixtures inside a building to a sewer connection, on-site wastewater system, or common effluent scheme at the property boundary. It includes drain pipes, junctions, inspection openings, and vent connections but not the above-floor sanitary plumbing stack. On a residential build, sanitary drainage falls under AS/NZS 3500.2 and must be laid to minimum falls (typically 1:60 for a 100 mm pipe), tested before concealment, and signed off by a licensed plumber via a Certificate of Compliance.
