Net Tangible Assets (NTA) is the accounting measure the QBCC uses to assign Queensland contractor licensees to a financial category and set their maximum annual revenue. NTA is calculated as total assets minus intangible assets (goodwill, IP, etc.) minus total liabilities. For most residential builders, the relevant threshold starts at $46,000 NTA (SC2 category, up to $800,000 maximum revenue).
Your NTA determines your category, and your category determines your renewal fee and reporting obligations. Falling below your category’s NTA floor at any point is a breach of the Minimum Financial Requirements (MFR) and can trigger licence conditions or suspension, not just a problem at renewal time.
