It is manufactured from Portland cement, cellulose fibre, and silica aggregate, classified as Type B (internal or protected external use) under AS/NZS 2908.2:2000 (verified 2026-05-09). Villaboard is available in 6 mm and 9 mm thicknesses with sheet widths of 1200 mm and 1350 mm and lengths from 2400 mm to 3600 mm, sourced from James Hardie’s product page (verified 2026-05-09). It is used as the tile substrate in bathrooms, shower enclosures, laundries, and kitchen splashbacks. Villaboard itself is moisture-resistant but not waterproof: a membrane compliant with AS 3740-2021 (verified 2026-05-09) must be applied before tiling in any area classified as a wet zone under the NCC.
