Ask Chalkline about this →The State Administrative Tribunal (SAT) is Western Australia’s independent body for reviewing decisions and hearing disputes across a wide range of regulatory and commercial matters, including building and construction. Under the State Administrative Tribunal Act 2004 (WA), the SAT handles appeals against licensing decisions by the Building Services Board, disciplinary matters referred by the Building Commissioner, and compensation orders above the Building Commissioner’s $100,000 jurisdictional limit.
For building disputes in WA, the typical path is: complaint to the Building Commissioner first, then escalation to the SAT if the matter is not resolved or falls outside the Commissioner’s jurisdiction. The SAT has broader powers to order rectification, compensation and cancellation or suspension of registration.
