Ask Chalkline about this →The Residential Design Codes (R-Codes) are Western Australia’s statewide planning standards for residential development. Published by the WA Planning Commission (WAPC), they are automatically read into all local planning schemes under the Planning and Development (Local Planning Schemes) Regulations 2015 (WA) and set density, setback, height, open space, and amenity standards for residential lots. Volume 1 covers single houses and grouped dwellings; Volume 2 covers multiple dwellings and mixed-use development. A single house that meets the R-Codes Volume 1 deemed-to-comply provisions for its density code (e.g. R20, R40) is generally exempt from requiring a development approval, subject to any overlays in the local planning scheme. Local planning policies can amend or supplement R-Codes provisions for specific areas.
