The non-climbable zone (NCZ) is the area immediately outside a pool safety barrier, defined under AS 1926.1, within which no object, structure, or plant may be present that could assist a young child to climb over the fence. The standard requires a 900 mm clear arc measured horizontally from the outside face of the barrier. For boundary fences used as pool barriers (minimum 1,800 mm high), the NCZ applies to the pool side of the fence instead.

Also known as: NCZ, no-climb zone.
