Ask Chalkline about this →The NCIF (National Construction Industry Forum) is a statutory advisory body established on 1 July 2023 under the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth) to advise the Australian Government on issues affecting the building and construction industry (verified 2026-05-08, DEWR: National Construction Industry Forum).
The NCIF brings together representatives from government, unions, and industry bodies. Its mandate covers workplace relations, safety, skills, training, industry culture, and diversity. It replaced the consultative role that the ABCC had played in the sector.
The NCIF has no enforcement powers. It is a tripartite forum for advice and consultation, not a regulator. Builders are not directly regulated by the NCIF. Its work is primarily relevant at the policy level, influencing legislation and guidance that flows down to building and construction firms.
