NASH Standard

NASH publishes Australia's residential steel framing standards. NCC 2022 H1D6 accepts NASH Parts 1 and 2 as DTS for LGS framing in Class 1 buildings.

NASH (the National Association of Steel-Framed Housing) is the industry body that publishes Australia’s residential cold-formed steel framing standards. The two main NASH publications are the Residential and Low-rise Steel Framing Standard, Part 1: Design Criteria (2006, with Amendments A, B, C), and Part 2: Design Solutions (2014). Part 1 sets the design rules, loadings, and connection criteria; Part 2 gives span tables, member sizing, and prefabricated solutions for standard one- and two-storey light gauge steel (LGS) framing.

NCC 2022 H1D6(3) accepts the NASH Standard (Parts 1 and 2) as a deemed-to-satisfy pathway for steel framing in Class 1 buildings, alongside AS/NZS 4600:2018 (cold-formed steel structures). NASH Part 2C extends Part 2 into cyclonic wind regions C1 and C2; wind regions C3 and C4, or wall heights outside the tabulated NASH range, require bespoke structural engineering rather than the NASH solution path.

For bushfire-prone areas, NASH publishes a separate standard, Steel Framed Construction in Bushfire Areas, covering steel-framing detailing in BAL-rated zones. It is used alongside AS 3959-2018, the DTS bushfire standard called up by NCC 2022 H7D4.

NASH is industry-published rather than Standards Australia-published, so its documents are accessed through nash.asn.au rather than the Standards Australia store. NASH publishes errata and amendments separately from the parent document; check the NASH Codes and Standards page for the current version before specifying.
