Deemed-to-Satisfy (DTS)

Deemed-to-Satisfy is the NCC compliance pathway where following the prescribed numbers and methods automatically meets the Performance Requirements.

Ask Chalkline about this →

The default NCC compliance pathway. Follow the prescribed methods and numbers in the NCC Deemed-to-Satisfy Provisions (or the referenced standards and ABCB documents) and the design is automatically taken to meet the Performance Requirements.

For Class 1 and 10 buildings, most DTS detail sits in the ABCB Housing Provisions Standard 2022, read together with NCC 2022 Volume Two. The alternative pathway is a Performance Solution.

Example: a wall braced exactly per the bracing tables in AS 1684 (timber framing) is DTS-compliant. The same wall braced by an engineer’s calc to AS 1170 is a Performance Solution.

Also known as: DTS, Deemed-to-Satisfy Provisions.
