CPC50220 (Diploma of Building and Construction)
CPC50220 is the Diploma of Building and Construction (Building), the VET qualification above the Cert IV and the TAS Medium Rise builder licence qualification.
Ask Chalkline about this →CPC50220 is the national code for the Diploma of Building and Construction (Building), a nationally recognised VET qualification and the step up from the Certificate IV in Building and Construction (CPC40120). It is aimed at builders moving into higher-complexity and commercial work, covering the planning, management and administration of larger building projects rather than just the technical build. For example, a carpenter who already holds the Cert IV and wants an unrestricted or medium-rise builder licence typically completes the Diploma as the next qualification.
Licence regulators treat it differently by state. In Tasmania it is the qualification for a Medium Rise builder licence (building work up to 3 storeys) under CBOS. In NSW it is a recognised builder licence pathway, commonly paired with the Certificate IV, though the primary NSW route also accepts a Cert IV plus a trade qualification or a relevant degree. Western Australia and other states set their own recognition.
The Diploma is delivered by registered training organisations (RTOs); course duration varies by provider, and recognition of prior learning (RPL) is available to experienced practitioners who can evidence the competencies. The qualification alone does not grant a licence: each regulator adds its own experience and application requirements on top. Confirm exactly what a licence class needs with the relevant regulator before enrolling, because requirements differ by state and by class.
