The Building Services Levy is a levy payable on building permits and related certificates in Western Australia under the Building Regulations 2012 (WA). It is collected by the local government permit authority at lodgement and remitted to the Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DEMIRS) within 14 days of month-end issuance. The rate is 0.137% of the estimated value of building work for permits exceeding $45,000 (minimum $61.65 for work under that threshold). The levy funds the administration of building services regulation, including the Building Commissioner’s oversight functions and building surveyor registration. It is separate from the local government’s building permit application fee.
