ABCC (Australian Building and Construction Commission)
The ABCC was the dedicated federal regulator for building and construction workplace law. It was abolished on 6 February 2023. The FWO took over its functions.

It had broader investigation and enforcement powers than the general Fair Work Ombudsman, and it administered the Code for the Tendering and Performance of Building Work 2016 on Commonwealth-funded projects.
The ABCC operated in various forms from 2005, following the Cole Royal Commission into the Building and Construction Industry. It was re-established in 2016 under the Building and Construction Industry (Improving Productivity) Act 2016 (Cth) (verified 2026-05-08).
The Albanese Government abolished the ABCC as part of the Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Secure Jobs, Better Pay) Act 2022. The ABCC’s enforcement functions transferred to the Fair Work Ombudsman on 10 November 2022, and the ABCC was formally wound up on 6 February 2023 (verified 2026-05-08, Fair Work Ombudsman: Abolition of ABCC and ROC).
